There's only been one mention of Metal Gear Solid??

The main Metal Gear Solid series is an epic tale of with the perfect mix of political and cultural broth (Not trying to sound pro-American) ! Seriously, what other tactical game in our times today still allude to the fallen days of the Soviets? And the storyline is amazing; the series itself teaches the importance of life and the idea of a self-made man (because after all, Solid Snake is not tied down to his genes).

Plus, it's tactical espionage-- I can't remember a game whose gameplay matched to MGS' complexity and perfection. ... Although I do agree, if you haven't played MGS 1, 2, or 3, and just started on 4, the controls get confusing.

(MGS 1 is my all time favourite game)

I have to disagree about the GOW franchise. The thing that I dislike about God of War is its educational value. (See I'm a fan of Russian history and social movements, so MGS (especially MGS3) offers a good time-travel educational experience for me) God of War is so mythologically wrong that it lead me screaming at Athena at certain points of the game of being a wuss and not a Goddess of War. I wish I could digress on how the storyline makes no sense whatsoever, but that would be a rant and irrelevant. In addition, the gameplay isn't new. I get more of a thrill with Devil May Cry 2 than I would with God of War I. God of War isn't at all brilliant in my opinion. In fact, I feel like it was long the lines of the "Legend of Dragoon to Final Fantasy VII" thing that Sony Entertainment tried a few years before it.

As for Dynasty Warriors, it's a pretty good franchise, not one of the best. It's portrayal of the Chinese epic, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (san guo yan yi), is completely original and have become the template that many entertainment companies base their version of The Three Kingdoms off of. (Think of online videogames, and the recent Chinese movie about the Battle of the Red Cliffs-- their characters are very familiar to Koei's). However, sometimes Dynasty Warrior gets no creative juice like in DW6. I mean seriously, when only like 12 characters get a musou mode? What's up with that? And DW5 and 4 were in my opinion, the only highlights of the DW franchise.

For Devil May Cry, if DMC2 wasn't created, I'd say it's one of the best franchises. DMC1 and DMC3 were absolutely brilliant, and DMC4 is definitely paving a way for DMC5, which I hope is in the making. And what I adore about DMC is that it obviously is INSPIRED by Dante's La Divine Commedia but NOT based on it. The storyline is genius also in my opinion, or for anyone who have read Dante's Inferno. (As opposed to the Dante's Inferno videogame that can only be described as God of War... but in "Hell").

And finally, I will put this out there: ASSASSIN'S CREED. It is the new love of my life. Sure it's new, and sure ACI was hellish and made every gamer go "THAT IS NOT AN ENDING UBISOFT!", but ACII makes up for thatryl and there is a lot of potential for the storyling.

Plus, you get to assassinate people. AWESOME SAUCE. :D

But one of the best series also in my opinion is Final Fantasy, only from years 1982 to 2000. (I've played all of them except for IV so.. I am refraining from a really long post on how amazing each FF is.. beside IV).

My favorite console game is any animal crossing or battlefield 2 (2004, but still good for pc).

But hands down, Earth Eternal MMORPG(pc, and 100% free), it's amazingly fun

Hate to say it, but I have to go with the Legacy of Kain series, both Blood Omen and Soul Reaver leading up to Defiance. I found the story on both parts compelling, to see both sides of the coin so to say from as far back in the past to Kain's rise as the vampire lord and his slumber, to the creation of Raziel and Kain's other children.
Then to continue on with Raziel's story of his birth, death and ressurection, passing through time to find his creation and purpose, plus other developed characters in the plot just as Janos and Vorador so add more and more different viewpoints to the series. I enjoyed the puzzles that constantly were thrown at me, along with combat from hunters to demons to fighting the Sarafan themselves. I was moved and drawn in by this series with it's twists and long cutscenes which made me feel like I was playing a movie rather than a game. So definitely on the top of my lists with that series.

Bioshock. That game is amazing. Loved number 1. Number 2 was a little dissapointing in the campaign, but made up for it with the multiplayer. Mind you, the ending of the multiplayer saddened me. I never got my 'Mystery vacation'...

Ooooooh this always a hard thing to answer.  I like the Breath of Fire games.  And Castlevania, the old school side scrolling ones.  But alot of the newer games are doing good.  Like the Digital Devil Saga.

Half-Life series wolf_smilie, I just wish valve would quicken the pace to get episode 3 released
Sonic and Pokemon games were fun too

I liked Septerra Core as an rpg, but it isn't exactly a series, just a single game.
I have a feeling I'd enjoy Final fantasy if I ever come around to play it

Left 4 Dead = many random hours of fun. Agree with Alister
